Today I came across the new music video for “PSA (Seven Suns)”  by Raury on my twitter feed. I’ve posted the video below which highlights our relationship with technology and how we’ve allowed it to become an all-encompassing aspect of our lives.

I’m sure plenty of you have heard of the phrase“pics or it didn’t happen.”  For me, as someone who is young enough to strongly identify with the digital age but still old enough to remember the wait time for pictures to develop from a disposable camera this video speaks volumes.

When I do or see anything worthwhile nowadays I want to immortalize that moment with a picture, a post, a group text message etc. It feels like if I don’t take the time to capture the moment somehow I’ll lose it. Which if you think about it, by interrupting whats going on to post something online, I’ve already lost the moment.

Admittedly the topic of our reliance on technology and its fast progression is nothing new. Still watching this video made me think. It’s one thing to be impacted by something and it’s another to act on it and make a change. Could I scale back the amount of time or the level of dependence I have on technology? I’m not sure that I could or if it truly would be better if I did. It’s easy to be nostalgic for how things were in the past and not fully embrace what the current climate of the times is. However, if things truly were like how they used to be there is a good chance that I wouldn’t have been exposed to this video in the first place.

Do you think there is too much tech? You can check out more of Raury’s music on SoundCloud.
