Todd Oldham Fashion Exhibit
One of the highlights from my trip to Providence and Newport was the Todd Oldham fashion exhibit at RISD. With NYFW and fashion month in mind, I thought this would be an excellent time to spotlight this colorful designer.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say that I’m a student of fashion but it has always been something that has interested me and played a role throughout my life. My admiration and appreciation for various designers translated into my willingness to experiment with my style and have a little fun.
To me, there’s no point to getting dressed if you don’t feel good your clothes and if you can’t have fun with the process. There is nothing wrong with having a classic style but why not add some whimsy? Why not add some color? If your personal style is feminine why not try on new silhouettes?
We don’t all have to be daring with our style. I’m not saying everyone has to run out and dye their hair purple or put on some crazy clothes. Although I would 100% recommend the unicorn hair life the most important thing is that you feel like yourself in what you wear.
Fashion & Imagination
As fashion month approaches, the blogosphere will soon be inundated with endless photos from on and outside of the runways. Some of the forecasted trends will make sense for your lifestyle and others might be best for the catwalk. When I look at designs from people like Todd Oldham I see a healthy mix of both.
I love being able to dream a little when I view a runway show. It’s thrilling when a designer allows their imagination to soar and the clothes speak for themselves.
Todd Oldham, an American designer, is someone who knows how to have fun and let their imagination go to work. At the RISD Museum, visitors can see a retrospective from his decade-long career that includes garments, accessories and old runway shows.
My favorite parts of the Todd Oldham exhibit were the accessories, baubles, and jewels on display. There were boots with a jeweled heel that I know would be a hit today and plenty of show-stopping dresses. If you’re drawn to the sparkle like a moth to a flame then check out this video. It features a case of all the jewels a girl could ask for and will offer yet another reason to make the trip to Rhode Island!
The Todd Oldham exhibit is available for viewing until September 11th. If you don’t get to make it in time then I hope you’ll appreciate the below images.
