Picky Eating
Just to let you guys in on a not-so-secret-secret. . .I’m pretty weird when it comes to my diet.
I’m not someone who is on one of those trendy meal plans or is a big calorie counter. I’m not a vegetarian or on that paleo kick. Vegan isn’t my thing, nor is being overly concerned with cutting out carbs. I love carbs by the way, never ever ever giving up carbs.
You see, there isn’t really a neat and tidy word for the kind of diet I have. I’m just picky and there isn’t really much of a rhyme or reason to the way that I eat. Some rules that I apply to some things, I throw out the window for others. I eat certain things that aren’t typical for a picky eater like sushi or more exotic cuisines like thai. I like peanut butter and I like jelly but I can’t stomach the idea of them together. I steer clear of white sauces, spreads or toppings like mayo, alfredo, that marshmallow fluff (actual marshmallows are ok), cream cheese, sour cream and whipped cream. I love Reese’s and Hershey kisses during the holidays but frown at the sight of chocolate cake or icing. When I go to BBQ’s in the summer I almost always have to bring my own food since I’m not a fan of hot dogs and I don’t eat beef at all.
Now I wont go on too much longer (I could really keep going for a while on this one) and bore you with my weird eating regimen. I’ve gone through a bit of a growth over the past few years and have expanded my tastes a bit. How did I wait so long to indulge in hummus and froyo?!!!!! Seriously that was a big mistake!
The point is that I tried something else new recently – Cuban. There is this one restaurant that A wanted to go to and since it was recently his birthday I put my misgivings and usual anxiety surrounding new culinary adventures aside and just went with it. When it’s someone else’s birthday, or birthday week, or month. . .y’know, however long you decide to keep the party going (no judgement here). . .what they say goes. So I put on a smile and made my way over to let him indulge in some Cuban fare. I’m going to be honest, I had a mango grilled chicken dish that was decent but nothing to write home about. He loved his shredded steak meal and the sangria was great! So great that our vision went from crystal to….a bit off. Haha Just joking but it was yummy!
On our way out the rain started pouring pretty heavy and we made our way over to go stuff our faces with froyo for dessert. I’ve made a vow to myself to make up for lost time when it comes to froyo and A is more than happy to grab up a spoon too. Before the rain started pouring we managed to get in a few style snaps which you can check out below!

Hope I didn’t throw you off too much by letting my picky eating flag fly. I feel like most people have encountered an oddball or two when it comes to food so I’m not too worried. If this is your first time and you’re having a bit of a difficult time imagining how I could turn down a steak then just don’t think about it. Look at that fun print instead! It makes me feel like a cool art teacher and in my book there is nothing wrong about that.
Have you tried anything new recently? Let me know your picky eating stories!
