The Perks of Being a Blogger That Keep Me Coming Back!
First off, I just want to start by saying two things. 1. Are you ready for Valentines Day? and 2. How has this week-long blogging marathon been treating you? There are still three more posts to go, not including today’s topic of the perks of being a blogger, before it’s back to business as usual but I really like how this exercise has challenged me.
If you’re coming into things a little late then here is the low down. To celebrate my 1st Blogiversary I’m sharing new content with you EVERY.SINGLE.DAY for the whole week leading up to 2/17 aka My Blog Birthday! Make sure you check out 4 Ways to Keep Creative While Blogging, 6 Essential Blogging Tools and my latest #VRxLove blogger spotlight if you haven’t already. Now let’s get straight to it!
Community
I’ve said this before a bagillion times but the blogging community it really wonderful. I would not be able to have all these budding relationships with each and every one of you if it weren’t for how supportive we all are of one another. When you first start out there is no way you can predict exactly how much the community you build online will be to you.
Sometime when you think of the perks of being a blogger you might think of the more glamorous lifestyles of the blogging elite but it’s the quieter conversations you have through comments or tweets with others that are what really keep you going.
Constant Education
Now if you were the type that hated school then you probably shuddered at the above header. Still, I’m always learning how to use new tools, techniques and strategies and I love that I’m evolving and my tool belt is getting more and more diverse. I shared some tools I discovered earlier this week but there are so many more things I’ve learned.
Accountability
Accountability is not something that you’ll see on any other list that talks about the perks of being a blogger. If you do please point it out to me because you’ve found my long-lost soul sister or brother. The thing is that when you blog and do so with a schedule you have to maintain that.
Of course life gets in the way at times but for the most part if you tell your audience to expect a surprise the next day then you have to come through. If you tell them that you’re releasing a product in the spring then you need to deliver.
In life you word is everything and in blogging that remains the same. I’ve learned this by both being a blog reader and writer and having something to hold me accountable has been a godsend. In the past I would push things off but now I deliver because through blogging I’ve learned to be accountable for my actions on and off the internet.
Knowing Yourself
If you want to know who you are and how you present yourself to the world then start a blog today. This blog has become a time capsule for my life. I noticed that back in my Year in Review Outfit post back in December. As time passes very rarely do you stop to check in with yourself and see how you’re feeling or thinking. Blogging gives you an outlet to do just that and in a year or two you’ll be able to look back and see what stage you were in as clear as day.
Not only that but it makes you think about how you want to introduce yourself to the world and when you do that you discover exactly who you are.
It’s Virtual
One of the best perks of being a blogger is that you can do it anywhere. You can move to another country, you can go out for a walk, you can do it during your lunch break or in your bedroom. As long as there is a wi-fi connection you’re good to go and not every hobby or profession (depending on your status) offers that.
Freebies & Opportunities
Now I can’t talk about the perks of being a blogger without talking about the freebies and the opportunities. I wanted to save this part for the end not because I’m ungrateful for them but because I feel like it’s already discussed a lot. I’ve been to NYFW twice, I’ve been able to network and meet great brands and women in business and yes, I have received free clothes. Each time I get to do any of the former feels amazing and I’m so appreciative of every second.
