Music is my Therapy
As I write this I am feeling overwhelmed. It’s not a bad thing, It’s not more than I can handle and I’ve certainly felt worse but I do feel #allthefeels at this very moment. Music is my therapy just as much as art or any of my other creative pursuits. As 2015 closed I took stock of everything in my life and I decided the direction that I wanted to go in. Now, I’m pushing through and heading in that direction but there are so many steps to climb before I get there. It’s quite the daunting task and it can seem like you’re constantly chipping away without seeing very many results. I hope that everything that I’m aiming for is realized but you never really know where you’ll end up until your there.
It’s easy to look back and see all of the signs that you were completely blind to in the moment. With a clear head it’s almost laughable the things we overlook or the things that fly entirely over our heads. Each of us has had a moment or two where we wish we knew then what we know now. Right now, I feel like I’m in one of those moments. I feel challenged and pushed and under some pressure but I’m confident that when I look back on this time in my life in a year or two I’ll see what it was all about. I’ll know that the things that I struggled to master and the effort that I put in had some meaning.
In this moment I could use a bit of solitude. Listening to music is my way of getting there. Some people feel relieved after they unload all there woes to a friend or therapist but for me music is my therapy and I know that many of you could say the same. I don’t always think of it that way but it’s been able to get me through plenty of tough times and it’s been the figurative exclamation mark during the highlights of my life.
Today, as I looked at my to-do list and felt the pressure sinking in I took a moment to find a nice playlist to listen to and it made all of the difference. I hope these songs do the same for you.
Keep in mind that some of the songs featured in this playlist are relatively new, some are old and from varying music styles. This week scroll on down and give your ears a bit of bliss in the form of Raury, Villagers, SOAK, & Marika Hackman. You can also listen to all the featured artists on Spotify!
What is therapeutic for you? Music is my therapy but there are many ways to achieve a sense of calm and I’d love to hear regain your center.
