Today is all about Villa Vizcaya!
To wrap up my Miami series I wanted to save the best for last and by “best” I mean the Villa Vizcaya. Since visiting this magical place I’ve fondly called it my second home, my summer home, my “if I had a genie circa Aladdin it would be my home” home. If you can’t already tell Villa Vizcaya is where it’s at! If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen a few shots (here and here) from this majestic location on my feed and, if not (I’m sure you all do though!), you probably noticed a couple pictures sprinkled through another one of my travel posts here .
For those of you who might need a bit of background Villa Vizcaya, also known as the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, was built with the intention of being the warm winter getaway of James Deering in the 1910’s. It took over 10 years to create this masterpiece that sourced and took inspiration from the old style of Italian country villas. Millions of dollars went into making it and over 1,000 people were needed to build it throughout it’s construction. Later, in 1952 Deering’s nieces worked to turn the grounds into a museum and now over 200,000 people enjoy it’s beauty every year.
Villa Vizcaya hosts many special events and is a sought after wedding venue as well. For a moment when I was visiting there I got stars in my eyes and dreams of a destination wedding but I snapped out of it since although it is a gorgeous location it doesn’t exactly fit the vibe I want for that day. Looking at the below pictures I’m certain you’ll see exactly how easy it is to get swept up in the grandeur of this location. Unfortunately, photos aren’t allowed inside the main house but that just gives you even more reason to visit!
What do you think of Villa Vizcaya? Stunning right?
