2016 Leap Year Playlist!

A 2016 leap year playlist was a no brainer. The concept of a “leap day” or “leap year” really gets me going and quickly puts me in a festive mood. I combed through the archives and with a little assistance from Billboard I picked a few of my favorite tracks that became hits during a few of the most recent leap years. Some of them were actually released on albums from the previous year but the singles themselves didn’t become hits until their prospective leap year.

This leap year playlist is chock full of nostalgia and I’m pretty ecstatic by how it turned out. Not to mention, I love a good even number and with a leap year you’re not only are situated in an even-numbered year but you’re also getting an extra day tacked onto the end of the year to make that awkward 365 days ritual into a cool 366!

There are actually quite a few odd-numbered days that mark meaningful moments in my life but if I had my way there would be enough even numbers to go around! Back when A, my other half, and I first started dating I knew I wanted to “make it official” and become his girlfriend but I waited until it was an even-numbered day to tell him. I didn’t want our anniversary to be on an odd day. Haha. I’m just weird like that.

This is the part where my weird quirks start to show but we all have an oddball tendency or two so let’s just ride with it.

Leap years give off the air of possibilities. It brings out a live life to the fullest and take nothing for granted sort of mindset. Realistically, it’s not like we’ll really notice having an extra day added to the year.

Still, I feel like it’s an extra gift. I guess what I’m trying to say is that leap years feel like a present or a blessing. I’m not terribly religious but I feel as though when you’re experiencing a year like this you should do something to commemorate it and show how thankful you are even if it’s small.

Today, my small gesture is this leap year playlist. Keep in mind that some of the songs featured in this playlist are relatively new, some are old and from varying music styles. This week scroll on down and give your ears a bit of bliss in the form of Jack Savoretti, Rihanna, Lupe Fiasco, Britney Spears, Santana, & Alanis Morisette. You can also listen to all the featured artists on Spotify!
