Jessie Ware!
Have you heard of Jessie Ware? I think you should all become fans of Jessie Ware. You can check out some other must-know artists here, and here.
She has one of those sounds that transcends age groups and is most likely something that you, your significant other, sibling, grandma, mother, next door neighbor, teacher, and even your mailman can all enjoy. In other words, there isn’t anything trendy or gimmicky about her music and I expect I’ll still like it for many years to come.
Now I have to confess that after leaving this show I was incredibly surprised. I had planned on going with the knowledge that I would have a good time and be entertained, however, I had no idea the extent to which I would be impressed. Jessie Ware has tons of personality and her voice completely filled Terminal 5.
The Performance
She came out onto the stage in an all-black look that was super minimal, save for the sheer cape that flowed behind her as she worked the crowd.
Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange was grooving and singing his heart out to all the songs in front of me the whole night! You might remember him from a previous “Music Monday” post. I saw him in concert last year and it was a fun coincidence that we’d both be in the crowd for a show almost a year later.
Jessie cracked jokes and repeatedly broke out into monologs about how much she loved NYC. During the show, she also revealed how she wrote some of her best tracks, like “Say You Love Me” and “Tough Love,” while in the city.
Before singing another one of her hits, “You and I,” she called a fan onto the stage that won a Twitter contest and allowed his girlfriend to come out too. Fast forward a few minutes and he’s down on one knee proposing to her!!! It was incredibly sweet and fit perfectly with the song which you can check out below.
It’s honestly a bit hard to listen to her albums now because I know how impeccable she sounds live and THERE IS NO COMPARISON. That shouldn’t stop you from checking out a few of my faves below but seriously go see her live when you can.
Next week, I’ll be sharing my experience at The Ting Tings show at Webster Hall with a show by Meg Myers and FKA Twigs little after that! The former is kind of a throwback show for me and I’m looking forward to it!
